About

I’m Michael – Creator and Owner of Try-Hard Customs. I’ve been playing video games my entire life. I bought my first “Pro” controller from SCUF gaming back during the Xbox 360’s time. It was an amazing controller and an absolute game-changer.
Later in 2019, I purchased, and was extremely disappointed with Scuf’s Xbox One “Prestige” controller. This was when I first learned of controllers with rear buttons instead of paddles. So I decided to try the 2 top brands, Battle Beaver Customs, and Evil Controllers. They both do great work! I preferred Evil’s “Mouse Click” Triggers (lower actuation force) but hated their button placement. I loved Battle Beaver’s button placement (all 4 accessible with middle finger) but hated their “Mouse Click” Triggers (my doubleshot consistency in Halo 2 suffered with Battle Beaver’s Triggers). Wanting to have the best of both worlds was the catalyst that began my intense obsession with developing my own controller and subsequent goal of making “Pro” controllers more accessible to people. I also try to offer a few things that aren’t available from the other controller companies. For example, custom Elite controllers that swap out the paddles for buttons. As far as I know, Battle Beaver are the only other guys doing this, but with 2 rather large caveats… Elites are “send-in” only, which means you’re looking at at least a 3 month wait time. I was also extremely disappointed to find out that they’re amazing rear button placement did not apply to Elites, so they only do a “low” middle finger location and ring finger location. You’ll notice, most of my controllers have all 4 buttons easily accessible with the middle finger. It is just preference at the end of the day, if you prefer using your ring fingers, shoot me an email! I can recommend a controller, or build you one specific to your needs! I offer my one-of-a-kind designs for an absolute fraction of what you’d pay to the other guys.

I’m Austin, a lifelong gamer, coder, and jack of all trades. From all-night gaming sessions to building Minecraft mods from scratch, I’ve done just about every nerdy thing you can imagine.
While I’ve primarily been a PC gamer for the past decade, I grew up on PlayStations and still use gamepads regularly, whether I’m playing Rocket League or Hollow Knight.
I started getting frustrated with the amount of stick drift on my controllers, even from minimal use, and eventually decided—like with most problems in my life—I’d fix it myself.
After many hours teaching myself to solder through countless YouTube tutorials and more broken controllers than I care to admit, I became proficient at replacing joysticks and modifying controllers in general.
After replacing joysticks as a side hustle for a few months, I met Michael, and we decided to team up to bring you what we hope are the best-value modded controllers on the market.
